After inaugurating an entertainment line on Canal Off with the irreverent format of Parque do Ítalo – nominated for the best sports entertainment category at the New York Festivals 2021 -, with a successful delivery, we received the challenge of creating and producing the first series of non Off fiction in which sport falls out of focus. With an innovative format that mixes animation and documentary, the project features an animated character, developed especially for the series: Rute, surfer and environmental activist, explains the historical context, shows data and reality about the themes of each episode.
The series raises an important question about humanity’s relationship with the planet and is divided into 6 episodes with central themes: Alternative economies, Food for all; Living water; Sustainable housing; Sustainable city; This is not garbage. In each episode we learn the story of 4 different characters who are changing the world in their surroundings and communities with attitudes focused on collective and environmental well-being. The stories work like 4 short films and are stitched together by animation.
All documentaries for each character were 100% scripted and designed scene by scene. To this end, director Leila Savary invited Thiago Dantas, an experienced screenwriter in various documentary formats and languages for television and an engaged person, attentive to social issues. The episodes were recorded in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Bahia, under the photography direction of PH Costa Blanca. From conception to delivery, it took two years of a lot of research, study, production and being on the road, filming around 50 days a day. Black, peripheral people, outside of aesthetic standards, occupy space in this product and star in speeches. Characters who work against the system, fighting for social and environmental transformation.
The series is currently airing on Canal Off and the episodes are now available on Globoplay.
